Areospace Component Manufacturer

Business planning and implementation

Developing a profitable company’s standing to become “the preferred supplier”, driving focus on customer service, increasing market share.

This long established company had an excellent reputation both as an exponent of manufacturing best practice and for its overall business performance. The company had succeeded in remaining profitable despite contraction in its main markets. The Board decided to grow the business, to increase the focus on customer service, to increase market share, and to position itself as a preferred supplier to its customers who were rationalising their supply base. Sterling helped achieve this aim.

We used structured discussions with key customers and market influencers, similar discussions internally, and analysis of the business processes critical to delivering what was needed, to assess the Company’s actual performance and scope for improvement. An action plan was developed and agreed with the Board.

Growth was to be based on dramatic improvement in customer service. To achieve this, cross-functional teams were established with some realignment of process responsibilities and relocation of staff.

Sterling's input was then used to support the cross-functional teams, project-manage the overall exercise, and provide specialist support in key areas.

The Company's thoroughly businesslike culture helped in defining measures of performance consistent with growth through improving customer service.

The results following the project have been strong and consistently improving.

The company is an outstanding performer in its sector.
